The Ministry of Science, Technology and Research has declared the week from 10-17 November as Science Week. A host of programmes geared towards the advancement of the field of science and Technology were implemented during the Science Week under the direction of the Ministry and institutions under its purview.

A foremost item amongst these programmes was the Science Walk which was held in the morning of 11 November with the participation of Minister of Science and Technology Susil Premajayantha and State Minister Lakshman Seneviratne. Among the large crowd of participants in the walk held from the premises of the Industrial Technology Institute to Vihara Maha Devi Park were scientists, researchers, academics, public officials, school children and many others. The presence of a number of exhibition vehicles added colour to the event. The prime objective in organizing this walk was to raise awareness among people on the role of science, technology and innovation in creating a developed country while achieving the sustainable development goals.
